Obsessions Of The Week - 11/15/13
Sorry for missing last week, CMA Awards week got the best of me. We're back now though. Hope you enjoy :)
Chase Rice – Ready Set Roll
I’ve seen Chase Rice play around Nashville for over 3 years now. My friend Kara stumbled upon him and would drag me out to shows with her all around town. It’s there that I also started seeing the now infamous Florida Georgia Line boys. I’ve always kind of kept an eye on Chase’s career and was excited to see that he’d started gaining momentum.
I don’t want to like this song. But in a world where we allow lyrics like “Baby You A Song” (also co-written by Chase), I feel like it’s only fair to let these slide too.
Ready set let’s roll
Ready set let’s ride
Get your little fine ass on the step
Shimmy up inside…
The song is catchy and his boy next-door charm sells it, no matter how hard I try to fight it. You win this one Chase Rice.

David Nail – Whatever She’s Got
I feel like David Nail cruises comfortably under the radar when he really should be making huge waves in the current Country scene. He’s a great songwriter and has a unique, yet stellar voice. He does things his own way, which is why this song surprised me a bit. It mentions the blue jeans and a pretty girl, but is still a song of substance. (Everything in moderation) He’s currently sporting what I call the “East Nashville” haircut and is playing Cannery Ballroom on Nov 23rd. See you there.

STILL OBSESSED WITH– Rilo Kiley
Jenny Lewis though. I always gravitate back to Rilo Kiley during late fall and early winter. Whether it’s “The Good That Won’t Come Out” and “With Arms Outstretched” from The Execution Of All Things or the huge single “Portions For Foxes” off of More Adventurous or even Under The Blacklight’s opener “Silver Lining”, Jenny Lewis gets it. Rilo Kiley songs always find their way onto my Fall Feelings playlist every year. I get even more excited when the guys at Lightning 100 decide to drop in one their songs mid-day and I catch it while I’m running around town. Thanks y’all.
